#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
VILLAHANGAR ANNUAL 2022
Villahangar greets another musical year full of news and welcomes a 2023 of new creative lymph first of all thanking all the artists who confidently continue to support and believe in the project.
Thus continues a renewed common and shared path that could not exist without the heartfelt participation of all the artists and operators involved, also given the aftermath of the global complexity of the historical period that we all face.
For this week’s Podcast Villahangar retraces the musical stages of another year that is added to its history and the construction of a well-defined identity and artistic direction, continuing to carry out its creative mission with enthusiasm and conviction: music under the sign of quality.
#MusicInTheAir continues its journey and to increase the portfolio of its guests from all over the world: for another year, many were the new artists from every country and the important labels to which it welcomed, which brought their sound fruit of their origins and most diverse origins, each representative of the electronic music scene from all over the world, with their own vision and creative taste.
Thus, between consolidated names and an ever-increasing number of very promising new talents, the weekly Podcast remains an indisputable reference point for Villahangar’s musical offer, discovering day by day the universes of the most interesting emerging artists on the international scene, the result of a constant and accurate targeted work of incessant scouting.
On the release front, the excitement is always growing. In the past year, after the two remixes – one by Iban Mendoza and another by David Moreno together with Iban Mendoza – of the track “Golden Hour” by The Axiom released on Top Town Records, label of the PP Production group which owns Villahangar, another project has seen the light: under the sign of Afrobeat sounds, the track “Bendingayazi” by the emerging African artist Double Drop together with the new musical promise Xabizo.
Following, the EP “Hayibo” by Belgian artist Maki Meraki, in his debut for the label, with the tracks Hayibo”, “Now You Know” and “Motea”, between raw disco rhythms and melodic house enriched with Afro touches.
2022 for Villahangar was a year of debuts of new artists: Maki Meraki is not the only one to whom the label welcomed in the year just ended: the month of October saw the publication of “The Lights”, the EP by the Mexican artist Vice Luna, with its two tracks “Bring Your Lights” and “The Palace”, powerful, energetic, inviting on the dancefloor. And that’s not all: in addition to Maki Meraki and Vice Luna, the Greek artist Dj Feevos also debuted with Villahangar with his EP “Early Rise”, with an ethnic atmosphere and remarkable groove, with dark instrumental sonorities with an engaging sound.
For the year that has just begun, there are already numerous projects in the pipeline that will see the light very soon: at the end of January, to welcome the new year, the EP “Come Find Me” signed by the duo of Latin origin PolyRhythm, at their debut with the label together with Nuzu Deep, who last week were guests of the MusicInTheAir Podcast.
To follow, in February, after a 2021 full of releases, Leo Guardo returns with the track Imikhuleko, feat. Lizwi. The label is ready to welcome, also in February, the English artist of Moroccan origin Rockin Moroccin, already a guest of the MusicInTheAir Podcast last June, with the track “Bayati” together with the Italian producer and musician of long career Davide Ruberto.
Finally, at the end of the month, after the great support from the likes of Black Coffee and Solomun, Matt Sawyer, founder of Villahangar Records together with Andrea Pellizzari, will release his new track “Rendering”.
The surprises promise not to stop here, after a convincing start of the year: to look at a present and a future full of novelties and more and more collaborations, and continue to offer their audience the new promising and unmissable artists on the international scene.
At what stage of its history is Villahangar?
Villahangar has found its way. It has great support from so many artists, it has been done a great job by Chris (Chris Leon of Everything Counts, ed.), the Podcast is a reference and helps us to meet new artists.
What are you focused on at the moment and what are Villahangar’s goals and projects for 2023?
The label at this time is giving and will continue to prioritize the search for new sounds, new ideas, new talents and their stories to tell. We think it’s always nice to see talents you’ve bet on become real artists. Being part of an artistic journey of producers who end up in the playlists of established DJs or seeing them around the world in crazy locations doing their djsets in front of many people, is also part of the growth of the label itself.
You attended the Amsterdam Dance Event last October. How did you experience this edition?
ADE is undoubtedly one of the most important European festivals, but of international importance, which every year hosts a large number of artists, labels, workshops. In addition to music and DJ sets, it offers many moments of meeting and reflection for all operators in the sector. Meeting many artists we collaborate with was nice. This year we collaborated with Move Ibiza for the ADE, both Matt Sawyer and Leo Guardo did a set for the radio present in Amsterdam for the event. At the same time, we met artists with whom we already collaborated, but whom we had not yet met and it was nice to find ourselves in one place immersed in art and music.
Matt Sawyer, founder of Villahangar Records together with Andrea Pellizzari, says: “It’s the fifth year that I go to ADE and it’s always a great experience to live Amsterdam in that period because you breathe a certain feeling, meet practically all the artists with whom you exchange messages on Instagram or Facebook and from there connections and collaborations are born. The world of electronic music is at your fingertips.”
And on the collaboration front, are there any news?
We will certainly continue with the path we have begun. We are constantly looking for new artists from all over the world, and it is the result of a meticulous and constant work, very demanding, which never ends. We already start the year with a duo debuting with us on the release front, and then move on to an artist who already has several releases with us, and then we will welcome another new artist. It is a good way to start the year, and we certainly want to continue like this.
