For this week’s Villahangar’s MusicInTheAir, we have an Italian-Thai artist, based in Milan. Born in a small Tuscan seaside town called Pietrasanta, he grew up between Italy and Thailand, and has now lived in Milan for twenty years. Today it is Sinai’s turn, who after several years of residency at the Volt Club, is currently resident DJ at The Sanctuary.

His sound, in constant evolution, is a perfect blending of electronica and organic instruments, a journey through the soul and body driven by warm beats and deep basslines all surrounded by organic spices. With his ever-evolving taste he is always able to capture the sensibility of imagination and constantly drive the listener through different worlds and cultures.

He tells: “I would define my musical style Deep Organic House. I think my sound has been in constant evolution, I started playing electronic music over 15 years ago and I passed from electro indie to minimal, to techno and deep house, I think my sound today has many influences from all these genres”.

The musical genres that influence him the most are deep house, melodic house techno, downtempo, organic, and afro.

In recent years he has toured many Clubs and Festivals in Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Tulum, Goa, Antwerp, Brussels, Gothenburg, Rome, Naples. He explains: “I played the first 2 editions of the Monastery fest, The Gardens of Babylon Istanbul, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Porto Cervo, Wildeburg Fest, Midburn Fest, Katerblau, Wilde renate Berlin, Sundowners fest Goa, Mia beach Tulum”.

He has worked with labels such as Orientaldeep, Pipe&Pochet, Kosa, Lump records, Manual music, Tibetania, Global Hybrid, Hupupa, The Purr, Roundans.

Speaking of releases, his latest EP “Circle” in collaboration with lev Tatarov was released on Pipe & Pochet just over a month ago and reached the 32nd place in the Best Organic House Top100. He says: “Soon in November a Various Artist for Orientaldeep compiled by me containing my next single “Syrian Dream””.

But not only that: he is also music curator for the Dutch Label Orientaldeep.

For the future, his next major gig will be on the 22nd of october at ADE The Seekers of Light Amsterdam.

When and how did your musical journey begin as Sinai after Soundshapes project?

My musical journey as Sinai started exactly one year ago. After the pandemic it was not easy to be a duo and I wanted to develop my own sound so it was time to take my path….

What music do you listen to when you take off your DJ headset?

I like to listen to different genres, it depends on the moment, from ambient to ethnic music of different cultures, sometimes classical music, from reggae to 60’s rock, to Pink Floyd.

Your reference artists / DJs / producers or what advice do you follow?

Satori, Bedouin, Davi, Hraach.

How much where you were raised and where you live influence you from a musical point of view?

Not much, I think I get much more influences when I travel to other countries.

What are your plans for the present and the immediate future? Do you have any new projects coming up?

My plans are to make a lot of amazing music and to bring it around the world 🙂

What do you think of the Italian electronic music scene? What do you think are the differences with the rest of Europe?

I think it is evolving a bit slower than rest of Europe but I can see more opening to new music and new sounds.

What evolution do you think electronic music is experiencing on the international scene?

I think the music is evolving in a way where genres merge together and get influenced from different parts of the world.
