#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
SASSON (FR)
Feeding Villahangar’s #MusicInTheAir international guest group this week is a French artist: Nicolas Sasson, Parisian dj and producer.
A musical path his, that started very early, at the age of 10, playing guitar. And already when he was 13 he began to learn to play with the first deck and the first cds. It was just as he was taking guitar lessons that he had his first approach to production, driven by a desire to harmoniously combine different sounds and melodies, exploring Organic House, Afro House, Indie Dance and traditional Progressive House.
An experience on the music scene that Nicolas Sasson refines and consolidates during the trips for his dj sets: and it is at the age of 25 that, thanks to tours all over the world, the role of resident dj in Europe, and publications in the charts, he reached new goals and laid the foundations of his global career.
He has been on stage playing alongside famous artists such as Guy Gerber, Lee Burridge, Agoria, Nic Fanciulli, Pete Tong, Nick Warren, Whomadewho, Super Flu, Magit Cacoon, Be Svendsen, Dj Angelo, Sabo, Monolink, Sébastien Léger and many others.
Over time his releases have been supported by international djs such as Blond:ish, Agoria, Black Coffee and Nick Warren, to name a few. His most recent releases in 2020 between EP and remixes have seen him collaborate with labels such as Wired, Suprematic, Inward and Children of The Future.
Nicolas Sasson’s next projects will be available on ABRACADABRA, The Sound Garden and Madorasindahouse Records. With his captivating and original style, he pushes to overcome the boundaries of conventional music genres and explore new and engaging sounds.
When and how did was your first meeting with music?
At the age of 10 when I started playing the guitar. Later I bought my first decks and CD records at the age of 13, with my best friend learning how to play after school.
Which one was the key meeting that changed your path?
Back in the days I took guitar lessons with a man that was producing music for the French TV, he introduced me to the production process on Cubase and offered me my first DAW license!
What genre do you associate yourself with and how would you define your sound?
I’m not easy to associate with genres, I always worked on progressive basis and structures that change between Organic, Afro House, Indie Dance and traditional Progressive House.
Music transmits emotions. Which are the ones that you want to convey with your music?
I’m a big fan of long buildups with surprise switch on drops: I’d definitely say “Surprise and Joy” to define what I aim transmitting.
How was your podcast born?
It was born through recent road-test from my last shows in Spain and Mexico. I only kept what has surprised and amazed me the most to play the last month. Some were promos as some were simply found through classic digging on online music stores.
What does it mean for you to be able to share your music with Villahangar?
I’m really glad to join Villahangar on this show, the label has been releasing great music these days: I played lots of it during my last shows. I am more than happy to support them by recording this Podcast.
How do you foresee your summer, both in your everyday life and from an artistic point of view?
We are actually finalizing a three-month tour starting in 2 weeks! Facing an intense amount of work, but I am way excited to be back on more or less full operations. I’ll be back in studio mid-September to print all my summer ideas: now it is time to compile lots of new sounds for these shows!
What are your hopes for your artistic future at the moment?
I will be launching three residencies this summer with my own brand and programming (to be announced in the next weeks)! I wish to complete all these shows and to open up new roads for my career. Music wise I have four upcoming releases on labels that I love and I cannot wait to see the results of those on potentially opened dancefloors!!
