#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
PLAY EVA
Play Eva, born Federica Facchini, is the leading artist of this week’s MusicInTheAir. Born on the coast of Brindisi, an Apulian city in Southern Italy, almost 37 years ago. Freelance art director, she has been a DJ since 2011. Resident in Milan, a part of her is in Mexico and the rest is around the world. “My family is still there and I stayed till I was 19 years old, when I decided to move to Milan for studying advertising and art direction. Currently, I live and work in Milan”, she says.
Argentine mother and Italian father former football player, she has always lived in a house full of music, and her first concert was at the age of 3. She explains: “I started very soon thanks to my family: my uncle is a music collector and he used to work for a local radio in Milan and also for an international label such as EMI Music.
My mom is a radio lover, so in every place and in every moment of the day she needed music. And so that’s me. I spent years discovering many genres, listening to music from heavy metal to hip hop, from soul to classics, from rock to indie and then… electronic music came in my life. All started with Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers (EMI products), I was 12 at that time. When I was 17, I started “to mix” in a very funny way: using the recorder of the audiotape connected with the tv and using music from musical videos and fashion shows. So, my first set is on audiotape!”.
Play Eva selects music always searching a kind of magic to give a special vibe to the dancefloor. Her sound is characterized by Organic/Afro/Deep House and grows with Latin influences up to Melodic Techno sounds.
She tells: “Starting from slow downtempo bpm, passing through exotic and vibrant music, I love to go with the flow, feeling the energy of the dancefloor and making a performance that has no label. I love House classics, but Electronic World Music and Desert House inspires me a lot. I’m always searching for a kind of emotional trip that takes me as far as possible”.
Together with the Mexican producer and DJ Vice Luna, her husband, she also forms a duo, Vice x Eva: they sometimes play together, doing DJ sets back to back.
Now, like Vice Luna, she is resident DJ at The Sanctuary Milan, the new super cool destination of the Milanese nightlife. She tells: “A magic place that gave me the opportunity to experiment more with Downtempo and Organic music. For the moment I have in mind to edit some old tracks: re-worked music puts the dancefloor in a kind of comfort that everyone agrees”.
Regarding her Podcast for today’s Villahangar, she says: “This is my voice, my weapon of choice.” With my selection of music, I want to leave this message and I really want to give a trip for your ears, passing through clouds and lights of different sounds. Thanks VH!”.
What music do you listen to when you take off your DJ headset?
I can say that I love listening the music I discover in general and most of the time it’s the same music I play in my sets. But I do listen other kinds of electronic music: from somethings experimental and dark to more underground stuff. I love also classic rock and grunge to romantic French vibes.
What are your artists / DJs / producers of reference?
First on the list I can put Blondish and her label Abracadabra. Then Satori and Nicolas Jaar as the best producers that always make perfect and magic music. Mira and Unders for the best sets. To mention some labels, I put Crosstown, Innvervision and Pampa Records as my favorites.
What were your most recent projects and what projects are you part of?
In May 2021 I won with my partner Vice Luna a Metapop competition for the remix of a Blondish track. It was an intense work we did together as a couple and I’m so thankful to him to let me express my intentions on this remix.
What can you tell us about your residence at The Sanctuary Milan?
I was introduced to The Sanctuary after Vice Luna started playing with them. This place makes me feel free to play different genres of music and all the time I feel comfortable with the mood and the vibes of the location and the people.
What do you think about the Milanese electronic music scene? What do you think are the differences with Europe and with the rest of the world?
Milan offers a lot of places and has got an amazing musical scene: I love some underground parties from the crews of ODD, LoboSound, LeCannibale and Ritualismo. For sure it’s the Italian center of clubbing and could be compared to Paris, Amsterdam… maybe not London and Berlin! But we can say that many artists want to play in Italy: it’s always wonderful to come here, isn’t it?
How was your summer? Do you have dj sets planned at the moment for the present and the future?
Summer was quite intense: I’ve started on June with my residency at the Sanctuary every Tuesday, then I’ve been around Italy with my partner Vice Luna for travelling and for some dates. Music always takes us in beautiful places surrounded by special people and cool energy.
As I said I’m still resident at The Sanctuary in Milan, now on the stage of the Main Room.
