Between #MusicInTheAir’s many international guests, for this week’s podcast Villahangar presents an Italian artist:

Mike Dem, he is dj, music and record producer, defined by the Italian newspaper La Stampa as “Dj Producer new promise of Italian House Music”.

With his producing activity and his innovative releases, he interprets all of the House and electronic music trends, moreover he walked numerous stages in events all over the world.

He is in a continuous rise in the music industry sector, during his decennial career he shared the scene and the stages with world resonance names, the most acclaimed by audience and critics such as Axwell, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Tube & Berger, Claptone, Pleasurekraft, Clean Bandit, SecondCity and many others.

He scored the participation in 2017, between great names, to one of the most important Festivals in the word in Belgium at Boom, the prestigious Tomorrowland, which at each edition hosts many djs from the global electronic music scene, ranging between the most different genres, from techno to EDM, going through house and dance.

His will to explore new boundaries in electronic music productions leads him to be also busy on the music label side: he is co-owner and co-founder of the House/Deep House label “Individual Music” of the international South African record project “Individual” based in Maputo in Mozambique and of “My Other Side of The Moon”.

He moreover collaborates with many other labels: in fact ,he signs tracks with Armada Music, King Street, and obviously with his Individual Music and MOS Of The Moon and others.

Very sensitive to the environmental issues, he was music-selector of the fashion manifestation Green Fashion Week for the editions that took place in Rome, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York.

Which is the recommended track in this DJ set?

I’d like to recommend this track, Vamizi, because it is new and it represents the first jam studio collaboration with my partners Neil Amarey and Breeze and the sun.
Sparrow & Barbossa did the other version, also very nice and melodic!

How do you approach a dj set? Which is your way of conveying emotions?

I aim to create empathy with all people around me during my dj set, I try to translate into music what I feel when I play, the mood and the feelings I have in that moment. If I manage, that’s the best moment for me. When the public and myself are on the same page, and connect through music.

Which song do you listen to when you take off your DJ headphones?

When I remove my dj headphones, I like to listen to everything that plays around me, doesn’t matter which style, genre or instrument… music leaves memories inside of me.

Which are your artists / DJs / producers of reference?

I love artists who understand moments, artists who can translate what happens around the world and put it into music, Da Capo, Black Coffee, Super Flu and all the producers from “All Day I Dream”.

Which artists do you currently admire and particularly like in today’s music scene?

Obviously my partners and friends Neil Amarey and Breeze and the sun, but also other artists who collaborate with the label like Davide Ferrario, Viel, Enoo Napa, Sparrow & Barbossa. I like their dedication, and their strive to constantly improve. They are humble, and this is something very important in an artist. If you want to keep improving, you cannot be arrogant, and you must dedicate yourself truly and fully to the music.
