MATT SAWYER

This week Matt Sawyer comes back to #MusicInTheAir’s Podcast as the protagonist. He was Villahangar’s creator back in 2015, together with Andrea Pellizzari.

Besides supporting Andrea in the launch of the project in its entirety, Matt’s contribution is fundamental, for just over two years he has been managing the Podcast #MusicInTheAir at 360 degrees. Together with Chris Leon of Everything Counts, he scouts, and is also producer and creator of the contents of the Blog villahangar.com.

Present in the music scene already previously with the name Mavee, since 2015 his artistic direction has welcomed a whole new path, under the sign of courage and experimentation and embracing progressive-melodic sounds with ethnic hints and nuances, steel drums and a lot of 90s culture.

His many continuous projects see the collaboration and are supported all over the world by international artists.

Matt Sawyer works tirelessly to spread his recognizable and highly researched sound, reserving a prominent place to the importance he aims to give o the artists with whom he collaborates and to their music.

Among his most recent releases, the remix of “Mbodiene” of Everything Counts on MoBlack Records, in Beatport’s Afro House TOP100 and the artist’s song most downloaded on Traxsource, and two electronic tracks on BornToLive, “Spill The Tea” and  “Simplify”, supported by an artist of the caliber of Solomun.

But also his remix of Knowhat’s “Tribalistars” branded Villahangar, played by Black Coffee in Keinemusik Radio Show, included in the Spotify playlist also by the Keinemusik crew, and played by Brina Jnauss on M2O in the DJMAG Session program.

Is also released The Semplify EP on the label BornToLive, which contains “Semplify”, track supported by Solomun, and “Spill The Tea”. And also the Strange People EP on Kinesen, Parsifal and Tommy J’s label, two Italian/Switzerland guys very smart with whom he already collaborated in the past.

Next releases, two songs on Sound Of Silence, an EP with Everything Counts and Double Drop on Villahangar and Cloud Song’s, a track played by Solomun all over the world. And soon, in July, he will be the protagonist of a new EP by Villahangar.

He says about it, with a nostalgic look to his beginning and to his past: “When I started producing, this track was one of my main references. Besides, I was in my twenties, good memories”.

FELIX DA HOUSECAT – SILVER SCREEN

Also this track is part of a past dear to him. He says: “This was the very first vinyl I bought in the record center. After that ride I went home not only with Felix Da Housecat, but also with that of the next track”.

GREEN VELVET – LA LA LAND

For this planetary hit song, one more than exhaustive explanation: “Always ready for afterparty”.

DAFT PUNK – ALIVE

There are many musical references, Matt has a strong passion for underground music and a strong all-round musical knowledge, and for his productions he reserves an eye for the 90s, a real cultural source of inspiration. He says: “Daft Punk could not be missing, I could put at least 10 songs from the French duo, but I choose “Alive” because I have a nice memory of this track, especially the reaction of the dancefloor”.

GIORGIO MORODER – FROM HERE TO ETERNITY

For the last track Matt chooses a song by one of the most innovative and influential musicians in the field of electronic music and disco music, who has collaborated, among others, with artists such as Barbra Streisand, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Janet Jackson, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Daft Punk, and won three Academy Awards for Best Soundtrack and Song. A real reference figure for the history of music and many artists all over the world. He explains: “This is a vinyl that my father guarded very jealously, now he has been looking for it for quite a couple of years, but he will find out from this interview that I have it =)”.
