Today’s #MusiciInTheAir Podcast is by Matt Sawyer, so for this week we return to take a stock of the situation of the moment regarding Villahangar, very close releases and new projects, between consolidated names and an ever-increasing number of very promising new talents.

For the new year, there are already numerous projects in the pipeline that have seen the light: at the end of January, to welcome the new year, the EP “Come Find Me” signed by the duo of Latin origin PolyRhythm, at their debut with the label together with Nuzu Deep.

In February, after a 2021 full of releases, Leo Guardo returned with the track Imikhuleko, feat. Lizwi. “Imikhuleko”, title of the track, means ‘Prayers’ in ZuluIl: the lyrics are a combination of two South African prayers, made poetic by Lizwi’s intense and magnetic voice.

Deep, emotional and spiritual atmosphere and vibrations thanks also to the Rooney synthesizer used for the hook, marry a text full of meaning designed to excite and reach very high introspective peaks.

At the end of February, after the great support from the likes of Black Coffee and Solomun, Matt Sawyer, founder of Villahangar Records together with Andrea Pellizzari, published his new track “Rendering”: a continuous evolving psychedelic melody, with multiple influences, which magically appears after a turn towards another unexpected direction. A track that is the result of a series of life experiences, beautiful or not, formative: the beginning of a new path where the freedom to express oneself in all honesty is told, with a sincere and disenchanted look.

With Rendering Matt is again on Black Coffee’s Spotify playlist “Black Coffee’s Track ID’s” and the song had the support of many international DJs: for example, it was played by Jamiie @this_is_jamiie, and it’s in Traxsource’s Top100 Progressive House.

Villahangar has just welcomed on the release front the English artist of Moroccan origin Rockin Moroccin, who released the track “Bayati”, made together with the producer, Italian musician of long career Davide Ruberto, extraordinary composer. A new musical challenge for the artist, with a decidedly melodic and tribal musical style, with a visceral passion for percussive rhythms.

Bayati is inextricably linked to Azerbaijan, home of the project and source of inspiration: the organic, solemn and mysterious atmosphere transports you on a sound, multi-sensorial and imaginative journey to the capital Baku. An exciting adventure that testifies to a new experiential level of the artist with live voices and instruments of the popular tradition thanks to local musicians, for an incursion into a magical and fascinating world with a thousand-year history that is ferried into the present.

Coming soon in early May, Matt Sawyer with “Momento”, who returns to the label after having just released the song “Rendering” last February.

“Momento” since last year has been immediately in the playlists of international DJs: always Solomun played the song in the closing ’22 of his Solomun + 1 at Pacha.

A melodic, energetic and engaging song, the result of entire piano sessions, synths and melodies. An accurate work in placing the percussion and the bass turn, for the drafting and input of the piano, avoiding a too forced drop, to which to arrive with the rhythm and background melodies. And inserting as many real instruments as possible into the composition, exploring different cultures and uses of the same instrument: guitar, piano, synthesizer or vocals. A new step in the path of musical maturation of the artist, who maintaining his taste for the use of drum machines or percussion, reaches a new level of awareness and personal taste.

Also in May, after last October’s EP “The Lights”, Mexican artist Vice Luna will return with a new release.
