#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
MASSIO
Debuts never end: today for the MusicInTheAir Podcast Villahangar presents Massio, artist born and raised in Ensenada Baja California, who lives in Venice Beach, California.
As a younger brother, his first meeting with music was influenced by his big brother, Loboman, who showed him Rap and R&B when he was little and he loved it. “Mase was my favorite artist. I just loved thick bases and mind blowing chrods”.
Deep House DJ & Producer able to drive the audience to a musical journey that hypnotizes and triggers different emotions, in a musical state of pure bliss, he lived an evolution over the years.
He started with progressive trance in 2006, then he moved to techno and electro house for a few years, which morphed into tech house for a while. He tells: “Evolution is part of the process, but the trend is always changing and new sounds came up, now my sound is more mature, deep and dreamy.”
Musical genres that influence him the most are Rap, Hip Hop and R&B, and when he takes off his DJ headset, he loves to explore everything: from salsa, cumbia, to orchestra and ambient.
“The more I explore the more I get inspired. Stay true to your sound, look for it and take time to define it, don’t play for the crowd but play for you. but obviously keep the crowd in mind and make sure they are having a good time, you don’t have to play commercial to make them have a good night”.
Currently he runs a small collective and record label called Techlepatic Black in which they throw monthly shows in Los Angeles backed up with a podcast on Soundcloud.
He just released a collaboration EP with Josta “Midnight Gardens” which Includes fire remixes from Urmet K and Valdovinos out on Keyfound Records, and he worked with label like Perfecto Records, Hoomidaas, Personal Belongings, Words Not Enough, Mirrors, Keyfound.
He played in Canada, USA, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and he made a China tour, including Beijin, Hong Kong, Chengdu. He played in festivals like Coachella, Burning man, Lighting in a Bottle, Latin Grammys amongst others.
How much where you were raised and where you live influence you from a musical point of view?
Ensenada is known for its very unique sound and underground parties, the crowd likes to experience minimal and house intimate events. When I first got into electronic music there was so much to explore and it definitely inspired me to dig for more.
What are your plans for the present and the immediate future? Do you have any new projects coming up?
Bunch of new projects, and new collaborations. Currently producing new tunes that soon will be out, just look at the sky and keep on dreaming!!
You are co-founder of Techlepatic Black. What could you tell us about it?
I currently run a small collective and record label called Techlepatic Black in which we throw monthly shows in Los Angeles backed up with a podcast on Soundcloud in which we feature the hottest djs and producers around the globe. The first release will be out in Late 2022! Stay tuned and check it out www.soundcloud.com/techlepaticblack
What do you think about the what do you think of the Los Angeles and Mexican music scene? What do you think are the differences with Europe?
The US-MEXICO pacific coast music scene is very different, but they are slowly coming together. In California you can find all kinds of music, from commercial to deep to breakbeats, and l think Baja California has developed a unique sound, more into the minimal tech side, slowly adopting tribal sounds.
What evolution do you think electronic music is experiencing on the international scene?
I think big names are getting older and more mature, those djs used to play a faster bpm and thick baselines, but now they are kinda relaxing a little bit, daytime parties are a thing and the music is way more vibey, more melodic with more soul. New producers are following this trend.
How was your winter? Do you have dj sets planned at the moment for the present and the future?
Yeah, I just released a podcast for deep house South Africa, I am happy to be featured in the Goos Mix series called Journey, and stoked to be part of Villahangar, shut out to NYTO for making this happen.
