It seems that there is no end to new artists for Villahangar. For today’s MusicInTheAir Podcast, in collaboration with Ecomadjs, it’s the turn of Marius Holm, dj born in ’93.
Marius Holm started making music being 10 years old, after he became a Jazz guitarist. He tells, concerning his first meeting with music: “At the age of 10 I started learning the guitar. Rage Against The Machine and their first self-titled Album changed basically everything for me. I wanted to become Tom Morello and I discovered myself studying Jazz Guitar a few months later. I had a great teacher who showed me the skills to play professionally, but at the end I only wanted to play like Tom Morello – he didn’t like that music though haha!”
Five years later, he toured Germany with a Rammstein cover band being a guitarist in a rock band and further developed a distinct understanding of harmony and composition.
Probably this helped him to get extremely fast into mixing and groove, when he discovered Techno music as his passion in 2018.
From there on it didn’t take long and in 2020 Marius celebrated his debut as a DJ at Promenaden Eck, followed by numerous gigs at open airs, festivals and underground raves although COVID restrained the German party industry heavily.
As club closures seemed foreseeable in Q3 ‘21 he decided to pack his bags and leave to conquer the coast of Tulum in Winter ‘22.
He loves crossing genres between organic Deep House, Tech House and Techno. His sets consist of on unique and unmistakable mix of various styles within he is still always staying true to his signature sound. He explains: “I don’t really like to limit myself to a genre – I love them all. And that can sometimes be a problem when I prepare a set, I would like to play everything. But when it comes down to a sound, of course, I like Deep House, Organic House and Techno (which is a wide term, right?). I really like to create journeys, like a long journey on a Pirate ship. Sometimes the water is smooth, then it turns into a storm and we eventually find ourselves back in the sun and are happy that it’s over. Always with a dark twist, I guess that’s the Berlin part of me.
A blend that attracted an ever-growing audience during his Sunday Residency at Dt Rooftop Tulum, gigs at famous Mia Beach Club and his weekly Radio Shows at Downtown Tulum Radio.
How long have you been working with ECOAMA RADIOSHOW?
And what made you choose to collaborate with ECOAMA RADIOSHOW?
This is my first from hopefully much more shows! I really like their concept!
What was the key meeting that changed your path?
Definitively my first concert with the German Punk band Die Ärzte. Seeing only 3 guys and their instruments live and how they interact, produce sound and turn 10.000 people crazy blew my head and I thought, this is what I want to do at some point. Well, I still like to play guitar, but now I prefer having my own “band” with 1 DJ booth.
Music conveys emotions. Which are the ones you want to transmit with your music?
All of them. Every one of us has its own bag to carry and thus reacts differently to even the same songs.
Therefore, there is not just 1 emotion, there are all of them. So, I like to create a safe space – forget what you do, lean back, dance and enjoy.
How is your podcast born?
I make love with my music and the little DJ set is born 😊
What does it mean for you to be able to spread your music with Villahangar?
