#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
LEO GUARDO
New week, new #MusicInTheAir.
Today Villahangar welcomes an artist for the first time at the Podcast: Leo Guardo, dj, musical producer and sound engineer from Italy who currently lives in Melbourne.
His is an artistic career as a deejay that started very soon, and that in 2001 brought him to earn the respect of the house scene after interpreting his unique style to one of the most known parties in Italy with the most famous artists in the national and international landscape, the Docshow at the Chalet of the Roses, in Emilia-Romagna.
His career then evolved on the sound engineering front: in 2008 he moved to Australia, with the strong wish to refine his skills and expertise in this regard. A commitment that led him to develop over 10 years of experience in the audio sector: Leo has in fact worked for a series of professional music productions, in television and on the radio.
Currently, the artist is focusing deeply on the music production and with his work in this regard he earned the respect of the international music industry.
He signed with some of the best labels of the genre, such as MoBlack, King Street Sounds, Tribe Records, Moon Rocket Music, Merecumbe Recordings and Union Records, to mention some of them.
Which is the recommended track in this DJ set?
There isn’t a “recommended track”, they’re all beautifully crafted pieces, but if I have to give you a name than it has to be Deep Musique (Rampa Remix), that’s because although being 4 years old it’s still sooo relevant!

How do you approach a dj set? Which is your way of conveying emotions?
First let me tell you that I’m a big fan of long sets and that’s simply because as a Dj you need time to make a connection with the dancefloor. A Dj set, in its real essence, is a powerful expression, therefore it needs to evolve, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to constantly grow in intensity. For me the evolution has to gradually have up and downs in intensity and energy. I totally play by instinct, so whatever feels right in the moment gets played. I feel that this is my best way to communicate with every person on the dancefloor.
Which song do you listen to when you take off your DJ headphones?
I like to vary a lot and constantly listen to a wide variety of genres, from classical to experimental and everything in between, in my record collection you can find Daft Punk, Ludovico Einaudi, Earth Wind and Fire, Brian Enoo and of course lots of House Music!
Which are your artists / DJs / producers of reference?
There are certainly many artists that inspired me along the way, but I don’t have a “reference artist”. I think that as an artist I need to be totally free and to experiment what is right for me, being true to myself is the most important thing. That is the only way to find my sound and express what I really am.
How did your meeting with Villahangar come about and how and why did you decide to promote yourself here?
It happened naturally while I was talking to Chris Leon about music production and our recent releases and then… you know how it is, after many conversations it just felt right to make a mix for all the Villahangar fans!
