#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
JOCHEM HAMERLINGĀ (ECOAMAdjs)
New week, new #MusicInTheAir Podcast for Villahangar, new artist: today, in collaboration with Ecomadjs it’s the turn of Jochem Hamerling, dj and producer.
Born on March 17th, 1986, he grew up in a music-inclined family, and his odyssey began as soon as his fingers could touch the piano keys. His father played in various bands and had synthesizers where he made his first music when he was 12/13 years old. He then ventured further into other instruments such as the saxophone and began experimenting with his father’s synthesizers making his first tracks.
Jochem Hamerling moved to Chicago, USA, at the age of 17 to complete high school. He was soon hypnotized and overwhelmed by the sounds of House Legends such as Derrick Carter and Paul Johnson. This sparked his passion to fully focus on producing pure quality dance music.
Back in Holland after graduation, he did not opt to dj in clubs but invested in a quality studio to produce his music, getting noticed by the big record labels.
He then began to publish on high-end labels and to be supported by artists such as Gorge, Artche, Joris Voorn, Pete Tong, Eelke Kleijn, Leftwing & Kody, EDX, Junior Jack, Armin van Buuren, Karotte, Robin Schulz, Lee Burridge and many others.
His is a well-known name in the Dutch dance scene, and increasingly known: Jochem Hamerling has a weekly residency in the most important house and techno radio program in Holland: The Boom Room on SLAM!. With an audience of 100,000 people on a weekly basis, Jochem is a true tastemaker in the Dutch scene. The Boom Room has been nominated for a Gouden Radioring for the best radio show in the Netherlands in 2021.
Music is a passion for Jochem Hamerling that shines through 100% in his tracks and DJ sets around the world.
What was the key meeting that changed your path?
Seeing Derrick Carter and Paul Johnson in Chicago when I was 17 really changed everything for me. I knew that radio hits in Holland but had no idea there was so much more out there. Those guys really awakened me.
What genre do you associate yourself with and how would you define your sound?
I am a producer and dj who always has a dancefloor in mind. I am happy when a dancefloor is happy. This means I play a wide variety in sounds and genres but I am very critical in what I play and what I donāt play. It can be house, it can be techno or progressive. As long as I can hear passion and something special in a track. If you need to put a genre on my sound I guess you could say it is somewhere between progressive house and melodic techno.
What are your hopes for your artistic future at the moment?
The next months are filled with releases of tracks that I made this past year. Besides that, there are various plans for new club nights so I hope that will all be possible again.
What does it mean for you to be able to spread your music with Villahangar?
Spreading music is very important. It is always great to share a passion with others.
