IVAN G

Today for the #MusicInTheAir Podcast Ivan G returns, Spanish DJ, from Madrid, but originally from Melilla, a small town on the North African coast.

Ivan G began his artistic career at the conservatory at the age of six, then abandoned the official path playing different instruments such as guitar and percussion, marking the beginning of his long musical journey.

Passionate about Deep House, Organic House, Minimal and Underground, he listened to electronic music in the mid-80s and early 90s, with artists such as Mike Oldfield, Jean Michelle Jarre, Prodigy and others. His sound is constantly evolving and with a strong imprint, which explores Deep House, Organic House, Downtempo, Deep Tech and Minimal, able to combine background and experience, deeply influenced by his origins, made of tribal, Arab, deep house and melodic sounds and rhythms.

Over time, loving music and technology, he has honed his technical competence thanks to years of learning about music creation and production, thanks to studies in schools such as DJPSchool or Inted, where he was able to learn from some of the best DJs on the international scene.

Gaining visibility on channels such as SoundCloud, MixCloud, YouTube and Instagram he has been noticed by some clubs, rooftops, beach clubs and restaurants in Madrid.

Very active on the radio, after starting at a Russian station, he is Resident of Deep in Radio based in Athens, which aims to reflect the spirit of the underground generation through the evolution of electronic music: for a couple of years, his weekly space called “Music Waves RS” is live every Saturday from 11pm to 12pm.

He is also resident DJ at the famous Ibiza Stardust Radio on the first and third Thursday of the month. Here some of his sets reached more than 6k of streaming listeners connected at the same time. With his more than 50,000 listeners per month, Ibiza Stardust Radio is one of the reference platforms for deep and melodic house music in the country.

Explorer and experimenter, with deep emotions and feelings, he always creates a story through his personal musical selection that reflects his inner world, hoping to reach the soul of other people. 

In order to improve and enhance himself as an artist he is now enriching his musical competence with daily lessons in classical and instrumental music, thus being able to offer even more sophisticated sessions and enrich his sets, as he himself defines them, “mixed and selected to give a little sea salt to your ears”.

Joaquín Rodrigo – Concierto de Aranjuez – Adagio Segundo

This track is, according to its author, “a conversation with GOD.” It was created during his worst moment in life, when the doctor told him he was going to lose his pregnant wife.
After that terrible news, he came home, sat in front of his piano and started to create this masterpiece.
These tracks create a lot of different feelings in me… happiness, sadness, calm… all at the same time. I can’t put into words what it is exactly… but it’s great!

Metallica – Master of Puppets

This track takes me back to my adolescence. For many years I listened to hard rock and metal. Today I continue to do so. Master of Puppets is Metallica’s epic metal song, created when the members of the Metallica group were kings (25 years ago).

Dark Tranquility – A bolt of blazing Gold

Despite the strength of the track, the rhythm changes, the mixes of angelic voices with guttural voices and different instruments, this track marked me for many years when I was a teenager, but it still does today.
This specific genre – Melodic Death Metal – and Viking Metal (which is a subgenre of heavy metal with folk in which deep and melodic sounds are mixed), reflects the style that makes me dream. I love that kind of mix, particularly when different musical scales are involved. They are the reason for the melodic sounds included in my DJ sets.

Sting – Shape of My Heart

Sting is one of the greatest artists ever seen. I could choose many of his songs but this one accompanied me during endless hours of study. In addition, during moments of peace and tranquility.

Beckers & D- Nox – Deep in the Dark feat LEEN V

Song released in 2021. I totally fell in love with it, so whenever I have the opportunity it is included in my sessions because it has the perfect ingredients that I always look for: organic sounds and a mixture of tribal and Arabic beats that I commonly use. A recent discovery that has become one of my favorites.
