For today’s Podcast we chose a Spanish dj, who lives in Madrid but was born in Melilla, small autonomous city located on Marocco’s oriental coast, in North Africa: Ivan G, who since January collaborates with Ecoama, the radio show of Tania Moon and Cristina Molina, already #MusicInTheair guests.
His city of origin doubtlessly influenced him on a music point of view: in Melilla the tribal, Arabic, deep house and melodic rhythms are much loved. This made Ivan G, influenced by tribal and Arabic sounds, a passionate for Deep House, melodic Techno, Minimal and Underground. His is a knowledge, refined with commitment, study and passion on a technical point of view, thanks to many years of learning, creation and music production: developing skills in different music schools such as DJPSchool or Inted, where he met some of the best djs in the international landscape. Today he is part of MOAI DJ’s list.
His is a sound in continuous evolution: he creates different mixes, characterized by his personal background which, together with the great experience, transforms them into sets with their own personal imprint.
Ivan G started to be on scene with dark sounds as a temporary dj at “Deep House Petersburg”. He was then contacted by the Russian reference label for house music, he performed as guest artists with the session “Minimal Earth”, gaining his first residency which includes exclusive productions.
With popular channels such as SoundCloud, MixCloud, YouTube and Instagram, over time he attracted the attention of some Spanish clubs and restaurants, becoming special summer guest at “Monkey Fun Kitchen”, a Thai cooking club, reference for art and music in Madrid.
Radio represents for Ivan G a firm point: he is currently Official Resident of Deep in Radio based in Athens, which reflects the spirit of the underground generation through the evolution of electronic music. For a couple years now, his weekly space named “Music Waves RS” is live every Saturday from 11pm to 12pm.
But not only: he also plays as dj resident in the famous Ibiza Stardust Radio the first and the third Thursday of the month. Some of his sets reached over 6K listeners connected on streaming simultaneously. With his over 50.000 listeners per month, Ibiza Stardust Radio is one of the reference platforms for deep and melodic house music in the Country.
The taste for discovery and experimentation is his characteristic: Ivan G is in fact now exploring classical and instrumental music with daily lessons in order to improve and value himself as an artist offering to his fans even more sophisticated sessions, enriching as himself defines them, his “sets mixed and selected to give a little bit of sea salt into your ears”.
How long have you been collaborating with Ecoama for?
I’m working with ECOAMA since January 2021.
Why did you choose to collaborate with Ecoama?
Due to unique ECOAMA’s double interest. From one side, their unique sessions inspired in natural Balearic sounds, but on the other, their specific commitment with sustainability and earth compromise.
When and how was your first encounter with music?
Everything started when I was a 6 years old child, I went to the conservatory for three years to study music theory (hoping to be able to play guitar). This never happened because no guitars were available in that time. Instead, I played a little bit the clarinet, but it was not for me.
Finally, I decided to change the plan, playing guitar and percussion outside of the official path. I tried electric, acoustic, and djembe as well during some time, this was the seed for a long music journey.
Which was the key meeting that changed your path?
I listened to electronic music in mid-80’s and early in the 90’s, mostly artists like Mike Oldfield, Jean Michelle Jarre, Prodigy and other pioneers of the style.
One of the things I like the most is music and technology confluence, both things together allow me to create and generate totally new and unexpected sounds.
What genre do you associate yourself with and how would you define your sound?
Deep House / Organic House / Downtempo / Deep Tech / Minimal
Music transmits emotions. Which are the ones that you want to convey with your music?
The music transmits stories, emotions, connects people with each other. This is what I do each week on my podcasts. I’m a person with deep emotions and feelings, so I always create a story through my personal musical selection that reflects my interior world hoping to reach other people souls.
How was your podcast born?
Currently I’m producing podcasts weekly for www.deepinradio.com and bi-monthly for www.ibizastardustradio.com
I started performing for a Russian Radio Station that invited me just for one program and finally asked me for a full exclusive show.
All of them can be listened to on Soundcloud, Mixcloud and Youtube and very soon in my personal webpage www.ivangmusicwaves.com which will be released in a couple of weeks.
What does it mean for you to be able to spread your music with Villahangar?
Villahangar represents an opportunity to share my art with the entire world. Considering its brand impact and the strong presence it has on the sector is an honor for me to collaborate and make its project bigger.
