#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
GRAZZE
The artist protagonist of this week’s MusicInTheAir is Grazze. Born in Guadalajara, Spain, he is currently living in Ibiza.
He began his journey into the electronic music scene at the age of 14 after having studied piano and musical theory. He tells: “Since I was born, I was obsessed with music. Actually, my parents realized it and they supported me with piano lessons when I was 6 years old. After that I studied guitar, percussion, sound engineer until I started to create my own compositions”.
Grazze in fact has a degree in sound engineering, he is specialized in the technical areas of production, mixing and mastering as well as guitar and percussion in the artistic field. His versatile sound has been evolving ever more with each song created by producing in different styles while maintaining his essence and own identity. At the moment he is exploring and developing a more elegant and emotive approach in his deepest side. On the other hand, he is also using more ethnic and dynamic elements as his inspirations for producing “club” sounds. He explains: “I’m currently working especially 2 genres. They are Deep House and Melodic Tech since I feel comfortable and happy with the sound in both. Of course, I love to introduce details from other genres like afro, indie or trance. I produced other styles in the past like, dance, EDM styles but I think I reached my best sound on the current styles”.
As a music producer, he reached TOP1 in sales on Beatport Styles with “Blow Your Mind” in 2015. Since then, he has been working with the major labels Anjunadeep (GBR), Armada Music (NL), Glasgow Underground (GBR) and Baroque Recordings (GER), while gaining the support of well-known media like Dj Mag, Faze Mag, Red Bull Music, We Rave You, IIbiza Global Radio, When we dip and Data Transmission, among others.
His polished sound and personal style have received special attention by many of the most recognized artists in the international electronic music scene such as Above & Beyond, James Grant, Jody Wisternoff, Stan Kolev, EDX, Sam Feldt, Nora En Pure, Wally Lopez, Kevin McKay and D-Formation, official remixer of “Cat & Mouse”, one of GRAZZE’s most recent releases on Armada Electronic Elements.
Currently, he is working with different labels like Anjunadeep, Renaissance, Einmusika, Zerothree, Sudbeat, Zhen, “and my house, Beatfreak”, he tells.
Since 2012 he has been working in sound production and technique in broadcasting companies such as Kiss FM, Hit FM, Loca FM or Unika FM – Spanish radio stations, and being an official DJ of several radio shows like “Don’t Stop DJ” of Hit FM, taking part in 4Every1 Festival 2015, “U Rockz Radio Show” of Unika FM, nominated “Best Radio Show” in Vicious Music Awards 2016 by Vicious Magazine and his new radio show 2019/2020 “Sounds of Grazze ” at Ibiza Global Radio.
In addition to focusing on his own artistic project, he is also working as a music producer and sound engineer for other acclaimed artists and prestigious music labels of international renown.
He played in the Netherlands, Ireland and this year, he made his first tour in India.
Among his most recent projects, his last E.P on Beatfreak with Liv the Pilot “Another Breath”, the remix for Arcadia in collaboration with D-Formation and Masella and the upcoming collaborations with Sosandlow or Diana Miro. He tells: “I have several releases scheduled in Beatfreak, Zerothree and Stereo Recordins that I’ll be presenting on this set for Villahngar. I’m really looking forward to go back to the studio and have time for creating new pieces after this crazy summer of gigs and trips”.
What music do you listen to when you take off your DJ headset?
I love to listen to all the styles specially the strangest ones. I always say that you can find inspiration in any style for your own productions. Music like Rock or Indie makes me crazy as well.
Your artists / DJs / producers of reference?
My musical father, D-Formation and other ones I admire such as Eric Prydz or Yotto.
What can you tell us specifically about your release with Redolent Music of DJ CHUS and La Santa? What about your experience with this label? In your opinion, what is its style?
Chus and Sandra are great professionals, their label has a short life but they work great and their promotion and work on the label, image, etc is amazing. They are more focused into rhythms like afro house but always love to introduce other similar styles.
How was your summer and now how is your autumn? Do you have dj sets or festivals planned at the moment for the present and the future?
My summer was too busy, paying on my residences in Nikky Beach Ibiza and Mallorca every week. I also had a tour in India and my last showcase in Amsterdam with Beatfreak was sold out, we were so happy about all the work that we do. Now I’m focused in going back to the studio and create more music for the upcoming months.
What do you think of the current music scene of the country where you live? What do you think are the differences with Europe and the rest of the world?
Yes, actually is difficult to have support from most clubs in Spain to schedule national artists. Promoters usually look for artists from other countries and there are not too many clubs that play electronic music since there are more trendy other styles like Latin on pop music.
What can you tell us musically about your Podcast for Villahangar?
I created a set including my upcoming songs that are actually unreleased and also music that I love from other artists. Hope you enjoy it a lot.
