FROLOV

Another new artist for Villahangar’s MusicInTheAir: today is the turn of Frolov, born in Dnipro city in Ukraine. Frolov is in Italy for four months. He tells: “Now I’m sharing my expirience with my friends who also organized events in Milano. Pushing my alter ego project as Dj Omlet as well in the Mercato via Monza”. 

Frolov is a bright and one of the most prominent representatives of the Ukrainian multicultural electronic scene. With his creativity and activity gave rise to the Soul Culture community.

Scrupulous DJ with twelve years of experience, he started his musical journey very early. He explains: ‘I was raised in the night clubs because my family was the owners of the “Labyrinth” club in Dnipro city, so basically I started when I was 14 ☺”.

His is a dense activity, he was resident and organizer of many events in his homeland:

for instance, resident and organizer of the “Home Thursdays” party from 2011 to 2015, resident and founder of Soul Night events from 2016 to 2020, resident and founder of Soul Serenades events from 2017 to 2021, for the Burning Man regional events in Kiev and the Festival Vibronica, also in Kiev. “In general I guess I play and organize more then 500 events,” he says.

Musically his Podcast for Villahangar is “a reflection of the dramatic and melancholy emotions I have with the hope that our war will end soon”, he tells.

How would you define your musical style today? And were there any differences with the past, an evolution over time?

Basically I don’t think that now is possible to define a musical style for a Dj, because there is so many music going and going every day. When I play I try to tell a story about my personal reflection in this moment.

Which musical genres influence you the most?

The few impact of inspiration is when I listen live Satori and Ocenvs Orientalis.

What music do you listen to when you take off your DJ headset?

Because of the war in my country now I’m listening mostly abstractive melancholic music, ketapop or just ambient with any minings.

What are your plans for the present and the immediate future? Do you have any new projects coming up?

Plans is continue to live and do what I like, music, events, performances, art.

Speaking of releases and labels, what were your most recent projects, which are the current ones and those of the nearest future?

I hope to do a release one day on my favorite labels such as Laut&Luise, Drosssel, Bar25. Make a Dj Omlet at US Burning Man of course.

How is your summer? Do you have dj sets or festivals planned at the moment for the present and the future?

Yes! Right now I complete this podcast and tomorrow I will go to Garbicz festival as volunteer for 3 weeks. For me it was a dream to reach this place so i’m really happy about it. Later on August 13th I will play at Hupupa festival in Nano Verde in Italy.
