#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
DIASS
As announced, here we are to the first release of the new year: Villahangar launches its first 2021 EP!
Diass inaugurates a year rich of interesting news and challenging sound adventures, with his “Bloom Together” EP.
On the occasion of his first official release with our label, today we have a special #MusicInTheair, where Diass, one of the best Bulgarian djs with over 25 years on stage, is the absolute undisputed protagonist: we present therefore his new Podcast, which includes all of his new songs.
Following the very praised releases on Bercana Music, Sagraal and many other labels, the Bulgarian artist teams up with Andrea Pellizzari’s and Matt Sawyer’s Villahangar imprint, in order to release three uplifting original cuts to his new EP entitled “Bloom Together”.
The EP kicks off with the title track “Bloom Together”, which delightfully merges organic percussions and inviting melodies in order to create a hypnotic atmosphere before “Rompon” focuses on the pulsating rhythms, shimmering low frequencies and emphatic builds.
Rounding off the EP in style there is “Odyssey”, an intricate house cut featuring revolving synths, inspiring vocals and floaty modulations with cinematic beauty.
How were these tracks born?
Every time, when I sit down in my studio and start working on a new track it is a different path…sometimes I first create the basic groove (kick, drums, and percussions) and then I start trying harmony and melody ideas which might work with the basic. In other cases, I start with the bassline and I build everything else around it. Bloom Together was born in the spring of 2019, and I was changing small things since then, until it has completely reached its polished end. I’ve produced Oddysey and Rompom last summer, and they have been my secret weapon on all of my DJ sets.
What are the atmospheres, the type of sound and what have you tried to transmit with this EP?
I like to tell a story with each of the tracks… they have a strong and punchy groove, but the top elements are always melodic, melancholic and dreamy…that is what music means to me, combining different atmospheres and styles together, creating a beautiful peak and making people dance.
What tools did you use to create these tracks?
I’ve recorded the vocal samples myself, which is something I often do in my production. This way, I can create something 100% authentic. The funny thing is, for example, that the vocals in ‘Bloom Together’ are in a non-existing language. I’ve just recorded some improvements of made up words, but they sound awesome in the track, haha.
How long did it take you to make it and how did you create it?
It usually takes me a week to produce a track. When I work on a project, I like to stop at one moment and do other things, in order to clear my mind and perceive what I’ve created so far.
Which is the track from the past – and from when – that you are particularly satisfied with? And what are the differences with this current one?
I love all of my tracks from the past, even the very first ones, which now sound ridiculous. Every new project has a different message, a different story and has a part of my heart in it. “Bloom Together” EP represents what I’m focused on and what I enjoy producing at the moment: dynamic, groovy electronic music, with beautiful melodic lines, a dreamy touch and organic feelings.
How do you foresee your summer, both in your everyday life and from an artistic point of view?
My summers are always busy: touring for gigs and organizing festivals in Bulgaria. I hope that we will be able to travel freely again very soon, so that I can achieve all of my international bookings. I’m studying graphics, web & motion design in my free time, which is something I also enjoy.
What are your hopes for your artistic future at the moment?
I would love to buy a place, where I can build up my studio, because for the moment it is located at home. I have a lot of new projects coming out this year, so I am very excited and I believe that the best is yet to come. I love sharing my music with people all around the world, that is my biggest goal.
What were your reference artists over time?
Until today, I love listening to Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Sade and Pink Floyd.
