#MUSICINTHEAIR guest dj : DBRA
#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week : DBRA
Dreamy and seductive, the Organic House by DBRA: a fascinating and full of mystery journey around the world. How does she do it? Combining multicultural influences and ultra contemporary electronic sounds. Hypnotic rhythms are combined with enchanting melodies: she creates an intoxicating, captivating sound journey with touches of exoticism. Sometimes melancholy too. A highly evocative atmosphere that blends perfectly with the spirit and atmosphere of Bali.
In contact with music since the age of 6 thanks to his parents and the piano, she immediately put into practice the desire to learn to play instruments such as classical guitar, electric guitar, drums, keyboard. She is fascinated by harmonies and melodies: learning to create them was therefore fundamental for her right away. DBRA had a great courage to leave a secure job as an architect and follow what she believes to let express herself in the best way: also to feel fulfilled and convey emotions.
DBRA has been sharing its music for many years on the Island of the Gods, Bali. She plays in established venues and events, including The Gardens of Babylon in Bali, 2019. Now she’s holding residencies at Café del Mar Bali and Manarai Beach Club, continues bringing her unique style to the island.
DBRA also has released tracks under the label Deep Bali Records, Lump Records, and Wanderlust Musica. Her latest EP with Exotic Refreshment, “Enter The Garden”, has been released recently with remixes from HAFT, Marco Tegui, Samaha, and Foxall. More releases from her coming up this year on Kosa Records, Shango Records, and WAYU Records.
When and how did was your first meeting with music?
My parents already introduced me to music since I was very little, I got into my first music class around the age of 6 I think, it was a piano class. After that I’ve joined many other classes, like classic guitar, electric guitar, drums, keyboard. I wanted to learn how to play all those instruments, I guess I fell in love with the harmonies in music and wanted to know how created them.
What was the key meeting that changed your path?
It was around 5-6 years ago, when I decided to leave my 9-5 job as an architect and pursuit my real passion in music. Music really is the best way to express myself and I want to explore that.
What genre do you associate yourself with and how would you define your sound?
I’m very eclectic when it comes to genres, I believe every genre has its own charm and I love different things from them, well ultimately I appreciate good music. But if I have to associate myself to a genre, I think right now my style is more Organic House. I always love the exotic sounds from world music and I find it very exciting when those blend with electronic sounds, it becomes something very current. Another thing that is key to my music is melodies, I always try to keep my music or dj sets melodic.
Music conveys emotions. Which are the ones you want to transmit with your music?
I want to create feelings from my music, whether it’s happy or sad, as long as it leaves a feeling to the listener, that’s good, it means the music brings out their emotion. But a lot of the time I find my music is quite melancholic, the melodies often capture the softer side of people.
