#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week : DOUBLE DROP
Our journey continues that will lead us to the discovery of various artists,
the new special project of Villahangar that points our gaze to the most interesting artists of today,
among brand new talents and names already known and established.
Today it’s up to Double Drop,
which returns once time again for the #MUSICINTHEAIR PODCAST,
this time waiting for Various Artists [#UNDERWATER].
Double Drop is an African emerging artist. Born in Maputo, Mozambique, in 1992, his interest towards music began very early, from childhood, at the Methodist church.
In 2006, he began his adventure in this artistic journey thanks to the productions in genres such as Hip-Hop and R’N’B.
His first House piece dates back to 2015, titled “Riddick”, a Theory of Groove Records production: a national success not only for his genre of reference, since it was the most downloaded piece for three months according to “Mais” and “music Crib”, national major magazine and most important music digital website in Mozambico.
Afterwards, with his genius, Double Drop pursued with publications on record labels such as Labels Lupara Records (ESP), Label America di Aaron Jackson Audiophile XXL from their single “Gangsta”, Audio Rehab (UK), Bodhi Records (USA), Build It Records (USA, Gangsta House Rowdy (Russia), Prima edizione (USA) and White Widow (Poland). But also many ones relevant internationally such as Afrocentric, MoBlack, Transa Records.
His songs were played all over the world by dj such as Kolombo, San Shiba, Beatangers, Aaron Jackson, Mark Radford, Marc Spence, Nytron, Wasabi, Nappi.
Nytron do Brasil, one of the most famous House Music artists in terms of Beatport sales, wanted him for a collaboration on a track to publish on Tropical Heat (Greece).
His genre of reference is Afro House: a contagious sound, warm and without limits as regards creativity and the fusion of styles.
A current choice that comes from contact over time with many genres, which constitute its artistic and creative heritage.
He has a positive spirit, and he loves to enrich himself thanks to the encounter with people and other artists, under the sign of respect and love for humanity, and with the aim of instilling hope, touching the soul of the listeners, beyond any race, sex or religion. A nature that is fully reflected in his music.
In 2018 he took a break from music, but today, in 2020, he came back with a new creative lymph, riding the time evolution but always tied to his roots. He just published on MoBlack Records. Joining with other young talented producers in Mozambico he decided to create his own record label Xibalo.
For his participation in Various Artists [#UNDERWATER] he created an admittedly Afro track, with some groove and dancefloor killers and a very particular use of sound.
How was this track born?
This song was born on an afternoon when I was with my soul mate, she has a good taste for music and was giving me some tips on how to improve music. and in the end something came out that we both considered brilliant. The name “Nguvu” is the same as “Power in Swahili”, that name was given by me to show the power of love, because the music was made thanks to the love that exists between me and my soul mate.
What are the atmospheres, the type of sound and what have you / have you tried to transmit with this track?
This music brings an atmosphere shaped by a mixture of emotions. In this song I want to convey hope.
What does it mean for you to be part of Villahangar and why did you decide to accept the invitation of this label to collaborate?
It means a lot to me to be part of this family, as it is an opportunity to reach another target audience, and an honor to be on the same label as artists that I consider very talented.
The Various Artist is a project that brings together different artists. What do you think? How do you live going out with other artists?
I think it is very interesting because each of the artists allows their admirers to have a different sound encounter from colleagues who are part of VA, I have been working on several projects and this will be the third compilation of several artists that I will be part of this year, after have signed for the VA’s of Xibalo Records and Shango Records.

My first contact was in childhood when I went to infant services in the Methodist church. I soon felt interest and passion for music.
