#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week : DIASS
Our journey continues that will lead us to the discovery of various artists [#UNDERWATER],
the new special project of Villahangar that points our gaze to the most interesting artists of today, among brand new talents and names already known and established.
Today it’s up to Diass.
Plamen Vasilev aka Diass, Bulgarian dj and producer, started playing when he was 12 years old, he was inspired and formed by his father Teddy Georgo, one of the 10 best Bulgarian dj with over 25 years on stage.
Super star at home, he is one of the few Bulgarian dj with an iron musical education thanks to over 6 years of studies of production, sound a engineering. His laborious work ethics, together with a green soul and a unique style capable of untangling between history, futurism and darker and harder elements, made him win also two DJ Championships and the Best New DJ Award 2012 in Bulgaria, moving his sound from his studio in Sofia to the dance floors of Bulgaria and all over the world.
With three active albums that bet everything on the quality of the productions and on the ability of arrangement between both vocal and instrumental tracks, he proved his ability to work with several different soundscapes, being able to make people dream and creating different stories and feelings.
He claims a 67th and 37th place in the top 100 Tech House on Beatport.
He works with the best Bulgarian vocal artists and he shared the consolle with artists such as Tom Novy, Peter Brown, Paolo Mojo, Luigi Rocca, David Tort, Niels Van Gogh, Joe T Vannelli, D-formation. His tracks were remixed by Manuel de la Mare, Luigi Rocca, Max Chapman, Simone Vitullo, Kinree, Dakar Carvalho, Silver Ivanov and others.
Diass represents a large variety of sounds, from Nu Disco / Indie Dance e Deep House alla Tech House and Detroit Techno, which make him artistically innovative and at the same time easily accessible, between groovy rhythms and amazing voices. He published with important record labels such as 303lovers, Loulou Records, Go Deeva Records, Incorrect Music, Groove On Rec (USA), Hotfingers Recordings, Underground Mjuzieek Digital (Austria), HUSH Records, Smiley Fingers Records, Wharton Records, Dul Records, Hijacked Records, Nuestra Musica, but also Pipe & Pochet, LUMP, Bercana, Cosmic Awakenings.
He was dj resident for the 2014 summer season at Dance Club Mania a Sunny Beach, entertaining location on the Black Sea. Moreover he was protagonist for the second year to the most important street parade in Bulgaria “Street Parade Veliko Tarnovo” with an audience of over 10.000 people.
He created the soiree No Orders and the Lost Gipsy Land Festival with great results and participation.
For Various Artists he created a track that belongs to a lover of deep, melancholic and progressive vibrations. With great deepness, levels and that is born from a great idea, a way to create totally in sync with his personality. As a completely not fan of the commercial “fast food” music, this track represents much of his point of arrival today in the experimentation over the years. The latter today follows completely his instincts and his desires beyond the commercial goals.
What does it mean for you to be part of Villahangar and why did you decide to accept the invitation of this label to collaborate?
I love the label’s quality touch in every release. Happy to be part of it!
How was this track born?
The story of this track started in 2017, when a close friend of mine, who is a geography professor in Sofia University, went to Mouth Athos in Greece. Mouth Athos is a sacred land with twenty Eastern Orthonox monasteries. He stayed few days in the bulgarian Zograf Monastery and everyday at 04 am the priests were doing a singing prayer which he recorded. I found it so beautiful and mystical, so I’ve sampled few of the phrases they’ve sang… It’s one of my very special creations.
When and how did was your first meeting with music?
I’ve grown up surrounded by music, because my father is also a DJ. My mother often says that when I was a baby, the only option to make me stop crying was to lock me on the couch with 3 pillows around me and turn the TV on MTV Channel. I carry music in my soul since I was born.
What genre do you associate with and how would you define your sound?
I love deep, melancholic and progressive vibes in music. There need to be depth, layers, great idea. It totally resonates with my personality.
I’m not a fan of commercial “fast food” music. I’ve been experimenting a lot during the years, but now I’m just following my heart for what I want to do as a producer.
