#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week,
in collaboration with WAYU RECORDS :
KALAMAN

With #Musichintheair Podcast this week Villahangar pursues its new path. In an historical moment such as this one of a global pandemic, difficult for everyone, the right key is to support each other and cooperate.
A direction shared fully with WAYU Record, label with its headquarter in Miami, which since April 2017 is busy with the promotion of emerging artists from all over the world.
Because for this, this week Villahangar hosts the producer Kalaman. In order to continue to lead you into the discovery of the most creative and interesting international realities in the musical landscape.

WAYU Records and Villahangar have many things in common. For example, giving to its artists all of the possible visibility, collaborating with other interesting realities in the electronic music world. The mission is joining forces for a common purpose: promoting the qualities and the many nuances of music, in order to explore the various genres without any limitation. All of this, by creating an involving visual story which goes deep into the musical identity of the artists.
With this purpose in mind WAYU Records was created in 2017, thanks to the owner and founder Julian Castaneda. He meant to sustain his best friend Leonardo’s promising musical project “MIICHII”. It was born due to the necessity to answer a well defined need: to give space to all of those not well known artists that because of this were considered not valuable for the labels.
All fo this had a great timing: precisely in those years Miami started to develop a great sensibility towards the music proposed by the label. For example, an institution such as Do Not Sit on the Furniture. It is a club dedicated to the underground cutting edge musical scene culture, started to give space to the most organic sound of a city such as Miami.
Therefore, always more clubs offered the best of the musical landscape in an intimate and sophisticated atmosphere.
However, cccording to WAYU Records there are many differences and there is a great gap between the USA and Europe. As far as musical nuances are concerned, this is a gap that the new generation’s labels are trying to fulfill.
To WAYU Records it is mandatory not to be confined to one only genre; over time, it published going into the most different genres: downtempo, house melodica, techno, all united by a great connection. As of now, it often dedicates itself to the new organic house and to downtempo’s sound.
WAYU Records has a deep approach with its new artists: the choice is made basing on the emotion given, and sees as primary the development of a close relationship which everything but superficial. A feeling as a true family, which keeps discovering the story of every artist and of his overall vision. In order to discover and share both human and musical values, objectives and experiences.
Every artist’s story told to WAYU Record’s audience is based on the construction of a visual story in complete tuning with its music. A storytelling composed by promotional videos and ad hoc images, and which composes day by day the story of the artist within the label with every possible future initiative, including as many collaborations as possible with other labels.
And despite the complex moment that humanity is living, which makes us face a difficult test and which makes us review many of our base principles, the label is enthusiastic for the new future projects: the release of WAYU Records’s artists already consolidated but also many new faces: DBRA, Zoe Reijue, Jerry Spoon, Renga Weh, Raw Main, Stories of Dharma, Shunus, MIICHII, Kalaman, Juanma Salinas and others.
A dream on everyone? To bring and make grow always more the label’s showcases all over the world, in order to generate always more possibilities to the artists, also with new initiatives that are top secret for now.

Kalaman is an emerging producer from Miami with Colombian and New Yorker roots. He made his debut with the EP “Kunja” on WAYU Records enjoying the support of artists such as Acid Paul and Be Svendsen. His downtempo productions are at the same time melancholic and exciting.
A versatility which mirrors also in its dj sets: he loves to experiment downtempo and deep house, which mirror the wide spectrum of his tastes.
Kalaman spent part of the last four years traveling backpacking, touching the most remotes corners of the world, which inspired him for his musical production. These trips – mostly in Asia and South America – showed him the beauty of the human connection and of nature, which strongly shaped his artistic vision.

How long have you worked with WAYU Records for? And what made you choose to cooperate with this label?
I started working with WAYU when I released my first EP In September of 2019. From the moment we met, the relationship has been friendship first, label second. I think that, like any team, the most important thing is to get along on a personal level. That’s what I feel about WAYU. We spent some time in Miami and some great moments at Burning Man 2019 before we released my first EP. Since then the label has felt like home.
What do you think about Villahangar? What pushed you to cooperate?
I think these days it’s easy to have a label. You see many groups starting labels. But it’s rare to see a label that provides consistent, quality music and that also goes beyond just music. Villahangar does great work in providing content and in seeking collaborations. And importantly, the label’s music is wonderful.
What kind of historical moment are you living, both as a person and as an artist?
Covid has forced me to retreat and slow down. As a person I have reevaluated the many ways in which I spend my money and my time. As a person I have a changed perspective on my priorities and the balance between work and art. As an artist I have spent a lot of time away from music, exploring other art forms, and I keep coming back to the studio with musical ideas that are very different from my finished projects.
What are your projects for this year, 2020-21?
I am working on another EP that I hope to release in the first half of 2021.
What are your hopes for the future both as a person and as an artist?
What I am most hopeful for is for continued internal peace, and to return back to life as we know it. To be able to organize events and meet all the great people that there are. And I am hopeful that people all over world will find their own peace.
