#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week : AIRBAS
Roberto Sant aka Airbas is a very active DJ and producer originally from Northern Italy, in the province of Treviso. He has been writing and recording since 2012, and has been collaborating with Villahangar for several years now. After a childhood immersed in the piano, he devoted himself to electronic and techno music of the early 90s, discovering here his musical roots, deep and indelible, for his current production, which currently has a predilection for melancholy harmonies.
His musical style is a blend of typical electronic beats mixed up with fresh and contemporary grooves that fuse everything from electro-pop, to NU Disco, through Deep and Tech-House sounds, able to create an enveloping and engaging sound, extremely modern. Accompanying on a mystical journey is easy for him, sometimes also focusing on majestic and monumental sounds, sometimes not disdaining even echoes from the natural world.
Names like Rufus Du Sol, Adam Port, Oxia, Chus & Cheballos, Eagles and Butterflies and Ben Bohmer inspire him.
Airbas is a third of DoOrnot, a musical group born a couple of years ago for which it deals with production, synths, samples and drums.
DoOrnot are out with their debut album released on last June 5th: a record that explores spaces and sensations without fear, and melancholy atmospheres thanks to the sounds of traditional instruments such as piano and bass, fused with other more contemporary instruments.
With the other members of the group, Airbas shares the absolute love for attention to detail: a firm belief that he pursues both in his numerous productions as an individual artist, carrying out his projects, and making him available to the creative path undertaken with DoOrnot.
Airbas has recently signed productions with Diversions Music, Natura Viva, Blackboard and VillaHangar.
Your reference artists / DJs / producers or what advice do you follow?
In general I follow a considerable number of artists ranging among a diverse set of genres, but Rufus Du Sol, Adam Port, Oxia, Chus & Cheballos, Eagles and Butterflies and Ben Bohmer for sure are artists that lately I have been consistently following and getting inspiration from.
How did your meeting with Villahangar come about and how and why did you decide to promote yourself here?
I have been collaborating with Villahangar for a few years now, after I first introduced myself via email by sharing a demo.
What’s in your present on the musical and human level?
Musically I have been working on multiple fronts with different projects. Lately I have been very keen on working with melancholic harmonies, which mix very well with the electronic genre and on the other hand are reflecting my current emotional status.
How do you live now and have you experienced in the recent past this particular moment for humanity of epidemic?
This is for sure a time to forget, but I believe we should let these circumstances teach us to appreciate the (not so) boring normality we are so used to complain about.
