AIRBAS

#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week :
AIRBAS

Villahangar’s 2022 continues with a happy return for the label: for this week’s #MusicInTheAir Airbas, DJ and producer from the province of Treviso, returns as the protagonist.

Airbas is part of DoOrnot, a musical group born three years ago that has chosen Villahangar for its debut on June 5th 2020 with the album “Quite Right”.

His is a musical style under the sign of absolute love for attention to details, characterized by majestic and monumental sounds, as well as echoes from the natural world, which blends different genres, from electro-pop, to NU Disco, passing through Deep and Tech-House sounds. So, the typical electronic rhythms are mixed with fresh grooves, with a modern sound, full of melancholic harmonies. In fact, he says in this regard: “In the last period I am writing both Deep House pieces and in the Progressive House / Melodic Techno direction, trying not to be particularly influenced by the fashions of the moment but rather drawing ideas from it. Over time in my music there have been evolutions but the genre on which I move has always remained the same. In recent years I have tried to work a lot on the final quality of the product focusing manily on harmony and sound design”.

Originally from Northern Italy, in the province of Treviso, the place where he grew up has greatly influenced him from a musical point of view. He explains about his musical roots: “I was lucky enough to frequent assiduously and even play in techno clubs from the mid to late 90s, and these experiences obviously left a rather indelible mark. I still prefer to write melancholic harmonies with captivating intentions that were precisely the characteristic sign of the composition of the 90s trance pieces”.

But the piano is also an integral part of his artistic vision: studied since childhood, it has greatly influenced his production. He explains: “Both from the point of view of writing as my approach to a new work always starts from harmony and almost never from the groove, and also in the final production, you will hardly find an Airbas piece without a piano, even small but there always is …”.

Thus, Airbas has been writing and recording since 2012, and his is a dense activity of projects, both individual and with DoOrnot.

In 2020, the releases “Prelude” for the One of A Kind label, a collaboration with the talented Russian artist Hrederik, an EP with Paul Daze for the label led by the Supernova Blackboard duo; but also the single “When The Silence Ends” sung by Sherman Baker on Natura Viva, with some remix versions of Add-us and Dario Dea, and One Way. Finally, an EP on Diversions Music, a label led by OXIA and Nicolas Masseyeff.

His 2021 was a year of EPs and Remixes on labels such as Freegrant, Hoomidaas and Kowalski to name a few and with new collaborations with other artists.

For 2022, new releases are on the horizon, on Blackboard, Natura Viva and ICONYC. Finally, with DoOrnot he is working on a second album.

How do you live now and how have you lived in the recent past this particular moment for humanity of epidemic?

We have spent better times, we look ahead and we hope there is little left to leave this historical moment behind, unfortunately the situation is protracting over time so long that it leaves little room for beautiful words and I live it badly honestly. Anyway, let’s look ahead.

Your style mixes many genres. In particular, what is there about electro pop and NU disco that influences you?

It depends a lot on the intention of the piece I have to do, I have always thought that mixing things up especially if we talk about Nu Disco was something that could lead to interesting results and I see especially lately that it is a direction taken by many. It is not something that can be calculated at the table if you do not want to do it on purpose, personally sometimes I like to mention the style of the drums, others the use of the same sounds can sometimes lead to interesting results sometimes less.

What have been your most recent projects/releases, and what are your plans for the present and the immediate future?

Despite the general sadness that we are all experiencing in our world, 2021 was a musically productive year for me that brought satisfaction, I came out with EPs and Remixes on labels such as Freegrant, Hoomidaas and Kowalski to name a few and with new collaborations with other artists. In the first part of 2022, 3 releases are currently planned. The first in a very short time in the coming weeks will be “Parallel Vibrations EP”, a work in collaboration with Paul Daze on the Blackboard label. Subsequently, two more solo EPs will be released on the Natura Viva and ICONYC labels.

What is now in the present of DoOrnot and what are the plans for the most immediate future?

We are working on a second album but the process is quite long and challenging, we have not imposing ourselves anything in the immediate future but we have written many things, we will see the evolution in the coming months.
