#MusicInTheAir Podcast hosts this week : SOUND SHAPES
Our journey continues that will lead us to the discovery of various artists, the new special project of Villahangar that points our gaze to the most interesting artists of today, among brand new talents and names already known and established.
Today it’s up to Sound Shapes.
Italian heart but distinctly multicultural spirit. Sound Shapes founds its musical identity with a great multicultural mark being born from Milan, deriving from the perfect and complementary fusion of the two founders, Simone Nad and Cristian Zauner, with Thailand and Romanian roots.
When they started collaborating in 2016 they started the creation of their very original sound. Features? Forged on deep and sharp rhythms, lines of bass driving enriched by organic and spiritual touches, mixing electronic sounds and ancestral rhythms. The result is tracks that are organic, groove and with warm and enveloping sounds, perfect for the club. They do not love to be confined to a genre, as their name tells, but they are the expression of a multiculturalism which juggles, evolving continuously, between Organic House, Techno, from the melodic to the more Raw up to Disco / Should old school but also Nu Disco / Indie.
Well known also abroad, they participated many times to the Garden of Babylon.
Producers for various labels such as Cafe de Anatolia, they created their own label Shamana Records.
They are actually dj residents at Milan’s well known Volt Club, they play in various Festivals and Clubs in Berlin, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Anversa, Rome, Bruxelles, Goteburg, Tallin, Goa, Tulum. They have recently been published on labels such as Stil Vor Talent, Pipe & Pochet, Kosa Records, Art Vibes.
What awaits us for their track on the upcoming Various Artist? A song inspired by a journey last year, walking through Instanbul’s streets, listening to amazing street musicians. Impressed by the its sound, they took up the traditional Turkish instrument called Tembour, with the aim to bring the listener into a relaxing atmosphere with organic drums surrounded by warm melodies.
When and how did was your first meeting with music?
Simone: My first approach with djing was about 15 years ago when I started spinning records during house parties with friends;
Cristian: Just born. My father was passionate about music and I have been exposed to different musical genres since childhood.
What genre do you associate with and how would you define your sound?
A multi cultural genre. It is also called Organic House recently but we are much more. We are also Techno, from the melodic to the more Raw one up to the old school Disco / Soul but also Nu Disco / Indie.
Our sound is constantly changing and evolving.
We tend to like warm and enveloping sounds that always wink at the dancefloor.
The name itself is a hint to the fact that we don’t want to be tied to one genre.
What does it mean for you to be part of Villahangar and why did you decide to accept the invitation of this label to collaborate?
We believe it is a very interesting project studded with artists who resonate a lot in our strings.
How was this track born?
We got inspired walking through the streets of Istanbul last year, listening to amazing street musicians.
When we came back to italy we decided to make a track using this traditional turkish instrument called Tembour.
